Kamal A asked:
my betta fish had two holes when i first got it from pet co. but the next day they were smaller. then the 3rd day that i had it, i found two new holes. they’re in the middle of her bottom fin. (not close to the edge) and also i found a gray lump on her top fin. the water temperature is consistently 79 degrees. theeres nothing in the tank to cut her, its in a water bowl. i change the water every 3 or 4 days and change a cup of it in between. and it eats 8 pellets a day gradually during the day. it doesnt look sick or anything. its active and shows off its fins when i’m near. and it flares up when it sees its reflection and swims around the bowl aggressively. it even makes bubble nests at night. any idea what the holes couuld be coming from? there isnt anything in the tank that it could catch to. the marbles on the bottom are very smooth. and also the gray lump; is it a parasite or something? i tried taking pictures but its too hard and no details show

Quest:The journey asked:
I had bought two goldfish a while back and they died lest than a week. I kept the tank clean and fed it once or twice a day. I just had a regular bowl. I was told that i needed some type of chlorophine. I dont know if this was true or not because this is the first i ever heard about this.Is this true and is there any other possible ways the fish could have died. Please help me.

I am moving “bruiser” from his 1 gal. glass bowl to a Marineland Eclipse Hex 5 . It has a built in filter but no heater. I am wondering if you think a heater is needed for a betta and what other fish (says it can hold 4-6 fish) would do well with a betta?

Jen asked:
I changed his tank water Wednesday and the next day he was swimming erratic and his fins were leaning to the side. He hasn’t touched his food and he either floats to the top or stay s at the bottom. I think the water wasn’t good, so I changed it again, this time with purified bottle water and water conditioner. I think I stressed him out though. I’ve read a few things and it’s saying that he just might be stressed or overfed (which I have done), but everytime I go near the bowl he’s goes crazy, like he’s scared of me. His color is looking not so great either but he doesn’t seem to be dying per say. Any suggestions on what to do?
Let me say that he is in a 10 gallon tank with a light and the water is fairly warm. Not cold. He has two fake plants and a rock to hide under as well.

Allison Z asked:
i have a betta fish and he is kept in a tank that has a 4 watt light bulb above on all the time and an air pump. The water is now cloudy for some reason. I felt the water and it was a good temp. not cold not hot not to warm. i looked at my fish and he use to be colorful all blue and the fins were a peach color… now the peach is all grey. his fins look a little torn up but not to bad so maybe fin rot but that doesn’t have anything to do with the color. Right now i have moved him into a tuperwear bowl with fresh water and clean rocks. away from any direct light. in his tank i fed him his regular flakes and some new ones that are really healthy and put in some water conditioner that came with the tank to hopefuly take away the cloudyness. what do i do with the tank? do i put salt in it and keep the fish somewhere els for 3 days or so. Its a betta will the salt harm it. i am wondering about the salt… so maybe it would disinfect the tank a bit to help with the fish rot… WHAT DO I DO
